Toque Diner Restaurant Review

Toque Diner recently recieved a special mention in the Korea Daily Times. Read what Cathy Garcia, a Korea Daily Times staff reporter had to say:

Toque Diner, located near Hangangjin Station on subway line 6, takes a more casual approach to brunch. Jane Chang, Toque's owner and chef, said she wanted a restaurant where people can eat good but not overpriced food and just relax.

"People shouldn't have to worry about paying too much for an omelet or pancakes. I wanted something affordable, too. ... I wanted to have a place where you can become friends with the staff, drop by anytime in flip-flops and relax," she told The Korea Times.

Chang, who lived in the United States for 10 years, said she tries to recreate American food such as pancakes, French toast and eggs Benedict at Toque Diner.

One of her favorites is huevos rancheros, which translates to "country-style eggs," a classic Mexican breakfast composed of fried eggs, refried beans, potatoes and corn tortillas. It costs 16,000 won.

"I wanted real pancakes, real French toast, real eggs Benedict with really good hollandaise sauce. Even if I have items that the other places have, I wanted to give it some authentic flavor. That's what I'm trying to do here," Chang said.

Chang is also proud of Toque's selection of sandwiches, including the Reuben, a sandwich with corned beef, sauerkraut, cheese and dressing and "the Tokyo,'' a sandwich with crabsticks and wasabi mayo. She said she wanted to make good sandwiches that are filling enough to be considered a full meal.

Toque has a brunch bar for 15,000 won during weekends and holidays. It features salad, eggs, quiche and smoked salmon, among other things. For more information, call (02) 794-3834.
